ABOUT FLICKR.COM
The Oak Run Photography Club (ORPC) has adopted www.flickr.com as it's official photo website for uploading and sharing photos with friends, relatives and fellow Club members. Photos posted/uploaded onto Flickr will allow Club members to view and evaluate the work of their peers, to compare their work with that of their peers, and to use the images for a variety of Club-related programs and functions, e.g., feedback sessions, photo evaluations, contests/competitions, etc.
The following data is designed to help Club members sign up for membership on Flickr and to upload and organize their photos. Members are asked to upload a maximum of ten (10) photos per month on the Club’s Flickr site. At the start of each season, photos will be removed from the site prior to June of the current year.

HOW TO SIGN UP FOR FLICKR
I. If You DO NOT HAVE an Existing Yahoo E-mail Account:
- Go to www.flickr.com
- Click "Sign Up"
- Fill out the form and click "Check Availability" - if the name you choose is not available choose another.
- You will have to enter a weird number/letter combination at the bottom of the page...you may have to try this 2 or 3 times as they are hard to read. This is done to prevent computer programs from generating fake accounts.
- When you do this successfully you will get a page that says "Registration Completed...Welcome”
- Click "Continue to Yahoo Flickr”
- Choose the Flickr screen name you wish to appear with your photos...it can be the same as or different from the Yahoo name you just created. NOTE: It is much easier for Club members to know whose pictures they are looking at if you use some variation of your own name.
- Click “Sign In”
- If you have a photo ready to upload, this is a good time to do it. Cick "Upload"
- Click "Browse"
- Select a photo from your computer or from a CD that you wish to upload and click "Open" (the word to click may be different on your computer).
- Give your photo a title, description and tag(s), if you wish. Tags are keywords like special techniques used, camera used, location, type of photo (portrait, landscape, etc.), anything you may want to use to help find it later.
- Click "Save"
TO JOIN OUR PHOTO CLUB GROUP:
- In "Find A Group" type "Oak_Run_Photo_Club" NOTE THE UNDERSCORES BETWEEN THE WORDS - an underscore is a capital (uppercase or shift) ‘minus’ sign.
- When it is found, click on it (the Club’s page name).
- When the Club page comes up, click "Join This Group"
- You will get a place to type a brief e-mail message to the Photo Club Group Administrator. Just type a note that you wish to join the group and send it.
SIGN OFF AND WAIT
In a day or so, sign back on and see if you have a message in your Flickr account from the Photo Club Group Administrator saying you are in the group. When you get this message you are in!
TO UPLOAD A PHOTO FROM YOUR FLICKR PAGE TO THE GROUP PAGE:
- Sign on to Flickr and if you do not already have the photos in your Flickr account, upload them now.
- Near the top of the page you will see the word “Organize” - click on it
- Your photos will appear as thumbnails along the bottom of the screen, and there will be a big open area above them.
- Click and drag any photos you wish to upload into the Photo Club group page into this big open area.
- There are a line of captions above the open area – click on "Send To Group”
- Under "Choose A Group" click “Oak_Run_Photo_Club”
- In a moment you should get a message that your photos have been added to the group.
- Click “OK”
- To see your photos in the group, click on "Your Groups" at the top of the page and then click on ORPC.
- After you finish be sure to click "Sign Out" at the extreme upper right of the page.
DONE!
II. If You DO HAVE an Existing Yahoo E-mail Account:
- Go to www.Flickr.com
- Sign in using your Yahoo ID and your Yahoo password
- You’ll see a welcome screen giving you the option to continue using your Yahoo ID or to choose a new one for your Flickr account. - Leave as is or type in the name of your choice and click “Create A New Account”
NOW YOU HAVE SOME OPTIONS:
- Click “Upload Your First Photo”
- Click one of the browse buttons
- If the computer doesn’t open to the folder containing the photo you wish to upload, navigate to the desired folder and open it.
- Click on the desired image file
- Click “Open”
- Click more browse buttons to add more photos as desired
- When you have selected all desired photos (you may start with only one - recommended), click “Upload” - this will take a while depending on the number and size of files selected. Your images will appear on a new page with a box labeled “Description” and a smaller box labeled “Tags”
- Type in a description and, if desired, tags. Tags are words or short phrases that you or someone else might use to search for an image. Tags must be separated by commas and two or more words surrounded by quotes (“..”) to keep them together on the same line. Examples: “Nikon D80”, “Bok Tower”, Carillon, BW, Overcast, “Central Florida” - anyone searching for photos with any of those tags will find the related photo unless they also required another tag not used such as “Garden”
- Learn more about tags after you get the basics!
